ROSS & NORTH BAY ISLAND (CORAL ISLAND)
Ross Island served as the administrative headquarters of British rule in the Andaman Islands until 1941, when a devastating earthquake left it in ruins. During World War II, the Japanese army took control of the island and established their camp there.
Upon arriving at Ross Island, the first thing you'll notice are the Japanese bunkers, remnants of the war. In the early 19th century, the island resembled a typical British colony, featuring paved roads lined with beautifully constructed Victorian buildings, British bungalows, grocery stores, a bakery, a church, a hospital, a cemetery, a swimming pool, and administrative offices.
To visit Ross Island and North Bay, you'll need to board a boat from the Water Sports Complex. Some boats head to Ross Island first, while others go to North Bay first, but either way, you'll have the opportunity to explore both destinations.
North Bay offers a variety of thrilling water sports, including scuba diving, sea walking, submarine rides, glass-bottom boat rides, and snorkeling. Basic eateries are available on the island where you can enjoy a simple lunch.
When visiting Ross Island, be sure to explore the Smritika Museum, which highlights the island’s rich history. In North Bay, don’t miss the chance to experience at least one water activity for a glimpse of the vibrant underwater marine life.
Note: An entry fee of ₹10–30 per person is charged at both Ross Island and North Bay, payable directly by visitors as it is not included in the package cost. For a truly unforgettable experience, activities like sea walking, scuba diving, or a semi-submarine ride are highly recommended.
